The English National Opera (ENO) has named Louise Jeffreys as its Interim Chair, overseeing both ENO and the London Coliseum. She will take over from Dr. Harry Brunjes, who retired from the position.
Jeffreys previously served as Deputy Chair and Chair of the Artistic Committee at ENO. Currently, she is a freelance Creative Consultant and Coach, having been the Artistic Director of the Barbican Centre from 2010 to 2020.
Her career also includes roles as Administrative Director at Nottingham Playhouse, Head of Production at Bayerische Staatsoper, and Technical Director at ENO. Jeffreys joined the ENO Board in September 2019.
In a statement, she shared, “ENO has been a significant part of my life for many years, and I am honored to step into the role of Interim Chair. Having worked closely with Harry Brunjes, I’ve gained invaluable insights from his leadership. I am excited to guide the Board and Executive team as we continue to innovate within the opera world and create compelling new work for audiences in Greater Manchester and London.”
Jenny Mollica, ENO’s Chief Executive Officer, added: “We are delighted by the Board’s decision to appoint Louise as Interim Chair. Her deep understanding of the company, combined with her vast experience in the industry, will be crucial as we move forward with our ambitious plans.”
The company also announced that Hilary Newiss, who has been on the ENO Board since February 2023, will step into the role of Interim Deputy Chair while a new Chair of the Board is being recruited.
