The Los Angeles Children’s Chorus is preparing to showcase its Winter Concert, titled "Celebrating Joy."
Around 400 choristers from six of the chorus' groups will perform under the direction of Artistic Director Fernando Malvar-Ruiz. Associate Artistic Director Eric Lifland, Fred Meads, and Dr. Steven Kronauer will also conduct.
The program, which differs between the two performances, includes a variety of carols, holiday songs, and winter-themed pieces. Notable selections include portions from Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, Felix Mendelssohn’s There Shall A Star From Jacob Come Forth, Johannes Brahms’ Ave Maria, and Jake Narverud’s Lunar Lullaby. The concert will also feature a collection of folk songs from Wales, Nigeria, and France, along with works by composers like J.S. Bach, Eric William Barnum, Marc-Antoine Charpentier, Petr Eben, Rafael Isaza, Kirke Mechem, Robert Schumann, Randall Thompson, Lyn Williams, and more.
The Los Angeles Children’s Chorus will perform its first concert at First United Methodist Church in Pasadena on December 7 at 7 p.m., followed by a second concert on December 8 at 7 p.m. at Pasadena Presbyterian Church.
