LA Opera to Stage Verdi’s “Rigoletto” in Summer 2025
Травень 15, 2025

From May 31 to June 21, 2025, LA Opera will bring Giuseppe Verdi’s “Rigoletto” to the stage at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

This rendition, directed by Tomer Zvulun, will be led by conductor James Conlon.

Christopher Koelsch, in a recent statement, remarked, “Rigoletto stands as a cornerstone of Verdi’s ‘middle period’ masterpieces, alongside ‘La Traviata’ and ‘Il Trovatore.’ This gripping tragedy returns to our theater, brought to life by James Conlon’s profoundly emotive conducting and the remarkable talent of baritone Quinn Kelsey in the lead role.”

The production boasts a stellar cast, with Quinn Kelsey delivering his celebrated portrayal of Rigoletto and René Barbera as the Duke of Mantua. The role of Gilda will be performed alternately by Lisette Oropesa and Kathryn Lewek. Blake Denson will debut with the company as Monterone, while Peixin Chen and Sarah Saturnino take on the roles of Sparafucile and Maddalena, respectively.

All performances are scheduled at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

This production marks a significant moment for LA Opera, as it continues its tradition of showcasing Verdi’s timeless works with world-class talent. Tomer Zvulun’s vision for the opera promises a fresh yet faithful interpretation, emphasizing the emotional depth and dramatic intensity of Verdi’s score. James Conlon, a renowned interpreter of Verdi’s compositions, will guide the orchestra in delivering a performance that highlights the opera’s rich musical textures and heart-wrenching narrative.

Quinn Kelsey, widely praised for his commanding presence and vocal power, is expected to bring a nuanced and deeply moving portrayal to the tragic figure of Rigoletto. Alongside him, René Barbera’s charismatic Duke of Mantua will contrast with the innocence and vulnerability of Gilda, portrayed by the accomplished sopranos Lisette Oropesa and Kathryn Lewek. The addition of Blake Denson as Monterone, alongside Peixin Chen and Sarah Saturnino as Sparafucile and Maddalena, completes a dynamic ensemble poised to deliver a memorable experience.

Tickets for “Rigoletto” will be available through LA Opera’s box office and website, with further details on performance dates and pricing to be announced closer to the opening. Audiences can anticipate an unforgettable journey into Verdi’s masterful exploration of love, betrayal, and vengeance at the iconic Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
