Kim Noltemy Takes Baton: Leading the L.A. Philharmonic into a New Era

Kim Noltemy, who has been serving as the president and CEO of the Dallas Symphony Association since 2018, will assume the same positions at the Los Angeles Philharmonic starting July 8, 2024. She will take over from interim CEO Daniel Song, following Chad Smith's move to become CEO and president of the Boston Symphony in fall 2023.

In her upcoming role, Noltemy will oversee the search for a successor to music director Gustavo Dudamel, who will depart for the New York Philharmonic in 2026, having held the position since 2009. Additionally, she will work on expanding the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles and preparing the L.A. Phil for its significant involvement in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, according to The New York Times.

Noltemy is also recognized as the founder of the annual DSO’s Women in Classical Music Symposium. She initiated the Symposium in 2019, aiming to address gender equality in classical music. Furthermore, in 2020, she launched a comprehensive plan for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) within the Dallas Symphony.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Noltemy has been actively involved in various arts and community organizations. She served as Chair of the Dallas Arts District board until 2022 and has been on the boards of the Dallas Black Dance Theatre and Aging Minds.

Noltemy's contributions have earned her several accolades and recognitions, including the Business Council for the Arts Obelisk Award in 2021 and being named a D CEO Dallas 500 thrice. Moreover, she was a finalist for the Dallas Morning News’ Texan of the Year in 2020.

Gustavo Dudamel expressed anticipation for Noltemy's arrival at the L.A. Phil, highlighting the organization's commitment to innovation and community impact.

In her statement to The New York Times, Noltemy expressed her excitement about the potential for growth and impact at the Los Angeles Philharmonic, viewing her new role as the pinnacle of her career.
