Kathleen Battle Returns: A Melodic Journey at the Metropolitan Opera
Березень 19, 2024

Renowned soprano Kathleen Battle is set to grace the Metropolitan Opera once again for a special concert event on Sunday, May 12th at 5PM, marking her long-awaited return since her remarkable performance in 2016, which celebrated the music of the Underground Railroad. This eagerly anticipated program will showcase compositions by Purcell, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Fauré, Villa-Lobos, and Rodrigo, along with a selection of spirituals. Collaborating with Battle are acclaimed harpist Bridget Kibbey and two-time Grammy-nominated guitarist Chico Pinheiro.

Battle, whose debut at the Met dates back to 1977 as the Shepherd in Wagner’s Tannhäuser, has captivated audiences with her portrayals of iconic roles such as Rosina in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Adina in Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore, and Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. Time Magazine hailed her as “the best lyric coloratura soprano in the world” in 1985, and her illustrious career has been adorned with numerous prestigious awards, including a Laurence Olivier Award, five Grammy Awards, and an Emmy Award. In 1999, she was honored with the Hall of Fame Award from the NAACP.

Ticket sales for this extraordinary event will be available to the public starting Friday, March 22nd. For more information and ticket reservations for Kathleen Battle in Recital at the Met, please visit the provided link.
