Juan Antonio Cuéllar has been appointed as the new director of the Sinfónica de Galicia, stepping into the position previously held by Andrés Lacasa.
In addition to leading the orchestra, Cuéllar will take on the directorship of the Consorcio for Promoción de la Música de A Coruña, the organization that oversees the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia.
Previously, Cuéllar served as the executive director of both the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional and the Asociación Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia. Together with Mark Gillespie, he co-founded the Orchestra of the Americas. He also directed the Orquesta Filarmónica Juvenil de Colombia, collaborating closely with Fernando Cortés.
Cuéllar has partnered with the acclaimed producer Julio Reyes Copello—recipient of multiple Grammy, Billboard, and ASCAP awards—working on music arrangement, composition, and orchestration projects.
His extensive experience in the music world spans various continents and prestigious ensembles, bringing a wealth of expertise to his new role. Cuéllar’s vision for the Sinfónica de Galicia includes expanding its repertoire and strengthening its presence both locally and internationally. He aims to build on the orchestra’s rich legacy while fostering collaborations with renowned artists and composers. With his proven track record, Cuéllar is expected to guide the orchestra into a dynamic new chapter starting in the 2025 season.
