Historic Leipzig Boys' Choir to Perform in Bethlehem Before Carnegie Hall Appearance
Березень 1, 2025

The Bach Choir of Bethlehem is set to host the distinguished Thomanerchor at its upcoming Gala Concert and Fundraiser scheduled for March 8, 2025.
Thomanerchor, an esteemed boys' choir originating from Leipzig, Germany, has a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1212. The group consists of 90 young male vocalists ranging from nine to 18 years of age. Notably, Johann Sebastian Bach himself directed this prestigious ensemble from 1723 to 1750. Their performance with the Bach Choir of Bethlehem will take place just one day before their significant appearance at New York's Carnegie Hall.
Leela Breithaupt, Executive Director of the Bach Choir of Bethlehem, expressed in an official press release: "Welcoming the Thomanerchor to Bethlehem is an extraordinary honor for The Bach Choir and our community. Their music has a purity and passion that resonates in your soul—it's something you don't just hear; you feel it. When the Bach Choir visited Leipzig last summer and performed in Bach's home church, we experienced firsthand the profound musical power of the Thomanerchor."
The celebration will begin at 4 p.m. local time and will be held at the Central Moravian Church in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The funds raised will go toward strengthening the Bach Choir of Bethlehem's Educational and Community Engagement initiatives.
Tickets for this exceptional musical event are expected to sell quickly given the historical significance of the Thomanerchor's visit. Music enthusiasts will have the rare opportunity to hear one of the world's oldest and most revered choral groups perform in an intimate setting before their Carnegie Hall debut.
The program will feature a selection of Bach's most beloved works, alongside other classical masterpieces that showcase the choir's remarkable vocal precision and emotional depth. This collaboration between the Bach Choir of Bethlehem and the Thomanerchor represents a meaningful connection between Bach's musical legacy in Germany and America.
"This performance bridges centuries of musical tradition," noted Dr. Christopher Jackson, Artistic Director of the Bach Choir of Bethlehem. "Having these young voices perform in our community creates a living link to Bach's time and original intentions for his music. It's truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our audience."
Community members interested in supporting this cultural exchange are encouraged to consider sponsorship opportunities, which include a private reception with members of the Thomanerchor following the performance.
