Historic Childhood Home of Composer Benjamin Britten Hits the Market for £795,000
Вересень 7, 2024

The childhood home of Benjamin Britten, located on the seafront in Lowestoft, Suffolk, is now up for sale. The property, a 10-bedroom commercial guesthouse situated at 21 Kirkley Cliff Road, is priced at £795,000. Each room features an en-suite bathroom, and there are two reception rooms available.

The house is being sold fully furnished. Rory Robertson, director at Hardimans Estate Agents in Lowestoft, commented, “The historical link to Benjamin Britten is certainly a significant factor in its appeal. This will always be recognized as the house where Britten grew up. Additionally, it offers great potential for expanding the guesthouse business, making it a prime opportunity for prospective buyers.”

Benjamin Britten was born at this residence on November 22, 1913. To commemorate his 100th birthday in 2013, a blue plaque was installed at Britten House. Plans are underway to place a statue of Britten as a boy opposite the property next year. The “Britten as a Boy” project, initiated in 2022, aims to fund a life-size bronze statue in his hometown. Organizers have about £15,000 left to raise from the estimated £110,000 required for the sculpture.
