Dresden Opera Announces New Conductor for "The Marriage of Figaro"
Березень 14, 2025

The Semperoper Dresden has revealed a change in its conducting roster for the forthcoming presentation of "Le Nozze di Figaro."

According to the announcement, Giulio Cilona will replace Riccardo Minasi at the podium, directing performances featuring a cast that includes Christoph Pohl, Julia Kleiter, Anna El-Khashem, Michael Nagl, and Cecilia Mayer.

Cilona, who was awarded the 2024 Ernst-von-Schuch Conducting Prize, currently serves as Kapellmeister at Deutsche Oper Berlin and holds the position of Principal Guest Conductor at Opéra National de Lorraine. His 2024-25 season engagements include appearances with Opéra National de Lorraine, Deutsche Oper Berlin, National Norwegian Opera Oslo, and Oper Köln.

The production of "Le Nozze di Figaro" is scheduled to run from March 20 to March 29, 2025.
This late conductor change comes just weeks before the opening night, though the Semperoper administration has expressed full confidence in Cilona's abilities to lead this production. Known for his dynamic interpretations of Mozart's work, Cilona is expected to bring fresh energy to this beloved opera.
The production will feature period-appropriate costumes and set design inspired by 18th century Spain, staying true to the original setting of Beaumarchais' play. Advance ticket sales have been strong, with the premiere night already sold out according to theater sources.

Critics are particularly interested in how El-Khashem will approach the role of Susanna, following her acclaimed performances in several European opera houses last season. This production marks her debut at the Semperoper Dresden, an important milestone in her rapidly ascending career.
