David Chan Appointed Artistic Director of Taipei Music Academy & Festival, Set to Elevate Musical Excellence in 2025

The Taipei Music Academy & Festival has announced that the acclaimed violinist David Chan will take on the role of Artistic Director starting in 2025, serving a three-year term.

Chan, an alumnus of Harvard University and the Juilliard School, is a recipient of numerous prestigious awards from international competitions, including the Tchaikovsky and Indianapolis contests. He is currently the Concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera, a professor at the Juilliard School, the Head of the Orchestral Performance Program at the Manhattan School of Music, and the Principal Conductor of the Apollo Orchestra.

In his statement, Chan remarked, “For me, TMAF stands out among classical music festivals. It not only offers an unparalleled level of artistic and educational excellence but also fosters a genuine sense of community and personal connection, where mentorship leads to friendship and respect. I am truly honored to continue the work of this vital organization.”

TMAF is one of Taiwan’s premier music festivals, focused on nurturing young talent and encouraging artistic exchange both locally and internationally. Each year, top-tier musicians are invited to teach at TMAF, providing students with exceptional musical training, as noted by Chief Operating Officer Shih-Kai Lin, who is also the current Artistic Director of the Tonebank International Music Academy and Festival in the U.S., and was previously the Director of Education for TMAF.
