The Chicago Opera Festival will launch its 2025 season with a production of Italo Montemezzi’s “L’Amore dei tre Re.”
Directed by Sasha Gerritson and led by conductor Uff. Emanuele Andrizzi, the opera promises to captivate audiences.
In a recent announcement, General Director Sasha Gerritson shared, “Marking our fifth season, the 2025 Festival will be a milestone for the Chicago Opera Festival. Since our inception in 2021, we’ve been dedicated to showcasing Italian opera masterpieces rarely performed in the U.S. Our fully staged productions, featuring renowned casts, have included numerous Chicago and U.S. premieres. This year, we invite audiences from across Chicagoland to experience our season themed ‘Love is a Triangle,’ which continues our commitment to presenting exceptional Italian operas through concerts and two major works in 2025.”
The cast of “L’Amore dei tre Re” includes Andrea Silvestrell, Maria Kanyova, Franco Pomponi, Andrew Morstein, Matthew DiBattista, Aldo Alan Navarette, Jade Dashá, and Viktoria Vizin.
Performances are scheduled for May 9 through May 11, 2025, at the Athenaeum Center.
This production of “L’Amore dei tre Re” underscores the festival’s mission to bring lesser-known Italian operas to the forefront. Alongside this opera, the 2025 season will feature a series of concerts and another major Italian work, further enriching Chicago’s cultural landscape. Gerritson emphasized that the theme “Love is a Triangle” will weave through the season’s offerings, exploring complex emotional narratives through music and performance. The festival anticipates drawing diverse audiences, building on its reputation for delivering world-class productions that resonate with both seasoned opera enthusiasts and newcomers.
