The Atlanta Opera is preparing to stage Verdi’s Macbeth.
The performances will take place at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre from March 1 to March 9, 2025. Michael Mayes will take on the title role of Macbeth, with Sara Gartland as Lady Macbeth. The cast also includes Morris Robinson as Banquo and Won Whi Choi as Macduff.
Iván López-Reynoso will conduct, with the production directed by Tomer Zvulun.
Zvulun expressed his excitement, stating, “It’s been over 25 years since Macbeth was last performed in Atlanta, and it’s time to bring it back. Verdi’s opera is a powerful theatrical experience that demands a talented ensemble of singer-actors to fully bring the drama to life, not just the music. This is an extraordinary cast, and I’m eager to begin rehearsals with them. Macbeth is truly grand opera, offering a musical challenge for any company. The Atlanta Opera’s excellent orchestra and chorus are more than ready, and I’m excited for Ivan Lopez-Reynoso’s debut with us.”
This production will feature a set designed by Steven Kemp, inspired by Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, and costumes by Robert Israel.
