Entitled "The King of Covent Garden," the upcoming biographical film delves into the life of the German-born English composer, George Frideric Handel. Renowned actor Anthony Hopkins, a two-time Academy Award winner, will portray the composer in this cinematic endeavor.

Set against the backdrop of Handel's composition of his acclaimed choral work, "Messiah," the film is a production of Embankment Films, a prominent British company specializing in film and TV sales and production. Global pre-sales for the film have commenced, anticipating its release in late fall 2025.

Originally intended as an Easter performance, "Messiah" premiered in Dublin on April 13, 1742, drawing an audience of 700 people. Over time, it has become synonymous with the Christmas season, celebrated worldwide.

The title of the film pays homage to Handel's association with London's Covent Garden, where he composed numerous operas and oratorios. Covent Garden, renowned for its Royal Ballet and Opera, will feature Handel's "Semele" in its upcoming season, marking 280 years since its premiere at the venue.

Directed by Andrew Levitas, known for "Minimata," and scripted by Tim Slover, the film promises to be a compelling portrayal of genius transcending convention to create an enduring masterpiece. Dan Lupovitz and Kevan Van Thompson will produce, with operatic mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins and Peter Touche serving as executive producers.
