Acclaimed Composer Paola Prestini Joins Blu Ocean Arts: An Exciting Addition to a Stellar Lineup

Paola Prestini, an Italian-American composer, has joined Blu Ocean Arts' lineup alongside other notable artists such as Conor Hanick, Dan Tepfer, Jeffrey Zeigler, and Sandbox Percussion.

During her studies at The Juilliard School under the guidance of Samuel Adler, Robert Beaser, and Peter Maxwell Davies, Prestini developed her unique style. She has collaborated with poets, filmmakers, and scientists to create works that delve into subjects like the universe and the environment. One of her most significant accomplishments is the Hubble Cantata, which stands as the world's inaugural virtual reality opera designed for communal engagement.

Beyond her compositional pursuits, Prestini holds the roles of co-founder and artistic director at National Sawdust, a Brooklyn-based incubator project. She is also the founder of the Hildegard Competition, an initiative supporting female and non-binary composers, as well as the Blueprint Fellowship at Juilliard, which pairs emerging composers with mentors.

Prestini's compositions have been performed by renowned ensembles, including the New York Philharmonic, Minnesota Opera, Los Angeles Opera, San Diego Opera, The Barbican Centre, Bellas Artes, and at the Festival Dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Italy.
