Грудень 20, 2023

Experienced arts administrator Toby Smith is set to take over from Susan Rivers as the CEO of the Borletti-Buitoni Trust in January 2024. The trust, which supports promising young musicians in building and sustaining international careers through custom-funded projects, has appointed Smith as its new chief executive following Rivers' retirement after two decades of leadership.

With a wealth of experience in the arts, Smith previously served as the Director of Performance and Programming at the Royal Northern College of Music for nine years. Additionally, he held the role of Festival Director at the Salisbury International Arts Festival during his tenure there.

Smith's international involvement in the arts includes significant contributions to events such as the Greenwich + Docklands International Festival and Global Streets for FESTIVAL.ORG, where he collaborated with artists from around the world.

As one of the founders of the Early Opera Company, alongside conductor Christian Curnyn, Smith brings a first-class degree in music from the University of York to his new role.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the position, Smith acknowledged the positive impact of the Borletti-Buitoni Trust on its artists, highlighting its unique support in providing a space for reflection and experimentation during crucial developmental stages. He also commended the trust's recent initiatives in championing organizations connecting with marginalized communities through music.

Looking ahead, Smith sees the Borletti-Buitoni Trust as well-positioned to foster future leaders in a classical music landscape that is expansive, urgent, relevant, and inclusive. He is eager to build upon the accomplishments of Susan Rivers over the past two decades, collaborating with Ilaria Borletti Buitoni, the dedicated BBT team, and the growing community of talented artists and visionary organizations worldwide.
