Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra Welcomes Juliane Gallant as New Resident Conductor, Marking a New Era of Musical Leadership

The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra has announced the appointment of a new resident conductor, Juliane Gallant, starting from the 2023-24 season. This position is supported by Mary Rozsa de Coquet's endowment. Gallant, originally from New Brunswick, has a background in opera conducting, having studied at the National Opera Studio and pursued her career in the United Kingdom. After returning to Canada, she has conducted various orchestras, including the Symphony New Brunswick, Kingston Symphony, and Okanagan Symphony. Gallant previously conducted the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the Women in Musical Leadership program during the 2022/2023 season.

Expressing her excitement, Gallant stated that she is thrilled to join the Calgary Philharmonic, praising the city's vibrant arts scene and looking forward to connecting with its diverse artistic and cultural communities.

In her role as resident conductor, Gallant will be actively involved in the Calgary Phil's educational initiatives, community concerts, and education programs. She is set to conduct multiple concerts in the upcoming season, such as the performances featuring Brett Kissel, Traditional Christmas, The Broadway/Hollywood Songbook, and Violins of Hope. Additionally, Gallant will lead the orchestra for the majority of the popular Symphony Sundays For Kids concerts. Her debut appearance as resident conductor will be alongside Serena Ryder at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium on September 29th.
