Later this month, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra will be performing the acclaimed and Academy Award-winning score from the popular Marvel film "Black Panther." The orchestra will accompany the film's screening at Orchestra Hall, located at 3711 Woodward Avenue in Detroit.

There will be three performances on June 23-25, with public concerts scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on June 23 and 3 p.m. on June 25. The June 24 matinee performance is reserved exclusively for select symphony attendees and community partners of the Gilbert Family Foundation.

During the performances, audience members will have the opportunity to experience the thrilling moments of T'Challa's journey to becoming king and his epic battle against the villain Killmonger, as the DSO performs the score live alongside the film.

"Black Panther," directed by Ryan Coogler and released in 2018, tells the story of the newly crowned king of Wakanda, who confronts Killmonger's plans to abandon the country's isolationist policies and initiate a global revolution.

The film was a tremendous success for Marvel, becoming the first superhero film to receive a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards. It won three Oscars, including Best Original Score, composed by Ludwig Göransson, which will be performed by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

The performance will be conducted by Thomas Wilkins, the Principal Conductor of the Hollywood Bowl. Tickets are available for purchase at DSO.org, with prices ranging from $120 to $46.
