London Symphony Chorus Names Mariana Rosas as New Chorus Director, Succeeding Former Teacher Simon Halsey

The London Symphony Chorus has announced the appointment of Mariana Rosas to the role of chorus director, effective one August. Rosas will move to her new position the role of associate chorus director, succeeding Simon Halsey, her former teacher. A graduate of the Univ of Birmingham’s MA Choral Conducting programme, Rosas will get on the responsibilities of her new role with the Chorus alongside her new conducting position at the Univ of Birmingham and her teaching role in the University’s Dept of Music. Rosas said: ‘I am thrilled to be taking on the role of Chorus Director of the London Symphony Chorus. Having transferred to the UK to read the MA in Choral Conducting at Univ of Birmingham and studying with Simon Halsey, it's presently an honour to be named as his successor.

I'm grateful for the support the Univ has given me as a learner and alumna, and see forward to continuing working with the students in the coming years.’ Rosas moved to the UK in two thousand-eighteenth Argentina she'd been helper Prof of choral practice at the National Univ of Arts in Buenos Aires and was working as a visitor conductor across Denmark, Canada, Italy and Switzerland. Alongside her new role, Rosas will continue to keep positions with London Youth Choir, Birmingham City Council and with the regional singing project, Warwick – A Singing Town.

The London Symphony Chorus is a world-class symphony chorus, based in London’s Barbican Centre. Originally d to complement the work of the London Symphony Orchestra, today their vibrant chorus is made up of one hundred sixty amateur choral singers that partner with the very best conductors, orchestras and soloists across the globe.
