Березень 18, 2025

Starting March 21, 2025, the New National Theatre Tokyo will make its latest rendition of “Guillaume Tell” available for streaming.

Viewers can enjoy the opera through either the NNTT Stream platform or OperaVision.

This production, which debuted earlier this fall, stars René Barbera, Olga Peretyatko, and Gezim Myshketa. It was helmed by director Yannis Kokkos, with Kazuki Ono, the opera company’s Artistic Director, leading the orchestra.

In its review, OperaWire commented, “Overall, this was a remarkable evening at the opera. ‘Guillaume Tell’ poses significant challenges, often proving difficult for directors to adapt effectively. At the press conference, Kokkos shared that he aimed to transform the four-hour piece into what felt like a one-hour spectacle. Supported by an excellent cast, a solid production, and outstanding performances from the chorus, orchestra, and conductor Ono, he achieved that vision.”

The streamed version of the opera will remain accessible for six months.

This initiative marks another step in the New National Theatre’s efforts to bring its world-class performances to a global audience, especially following the success of previous online broadcasts. “Guillaume Tell,” a grand opera by Gioachino Rossini, tells the story of the legendary Swiss marksman William Tell and his fight for freedom, blending intense drama with intricate musical compositions. For those unable to attend the live premiere, this streaming opportunity offers a chance to experience the production’s innovative staging and powerful vocal performances from anywhere in the world. Subtitles in multiple languages will also be provided to enhance accessibility, ensuring that the emotional depth and historical resonance of the work reach viewers far beyond Tokyo.
