Opera Naples is preparing to showcase the beloved comic operetta "The Mikado." This humorous and fanciful story explores themes of romance, governmental intrigue, and delightful absurdity against the backdrop of fictional ancient Japan. Performances will take place on March 7 and 9 at the Cambria Park Softball Field.
The talented ensemble features Nathan Schafer, Matthew Cossack, Scott Hetz Clark, Jeffrey Goldberg, Louis Dall'Ava, Hannah Cho, Cornelia Lotito, D'Ariel Barnard, and Bridget Scott.
Louis Dall'ava will serve as director for the production, while Christian Miller will lead as conductor.
"The Mikado" is being staged as part of Opera Naples' Festival Under the Stars, a special series that also includes performances of Puccini's "La Boheme" and Tchaikovsky's "Sleeping Beauty."
Audiences can expect an enchanting evening of Gilbert and Sullivan's timeless music under the night sky. Written in 1885, "The Mikado" remains one of the most frequently performed works of musical theater in the English language, known for its catchy melodies, sharp wit, and satirical take on British politics and institutions, cleverly disguised in Japanese setting.
The outdoor venue at Cambria Park provides a unique atmosphere for this production, allowing attendees to experience the magic of live opera in a relaxed, natural environment. Patrons are encouraged to bring blankets or low chairs and arrive early to secure optimal viewing spots.
Tickets for all Festival Under the Stars performances are now available through Opera Naples' website or box office. Special group rates and student discounts are offered to make this cultural experience accessible to the wider community.
