Tobias Rempe Named Director of Konzerthaus Berlin
Травень 21, 2024

The Konzerthaus Berlin has appointed Tobias Rempe as its incoming Director, set to assume the role in the summer of 2025, succeeding Sebastian Nordmann, who has led the institution since 2009. Nordmann will transition to the position of Director at the Lucerne Festival.

Tobias Rempe, originally trained as a violinist, co-founded Ensemble Resonanz during his student years and continued as an active member until 2007. He then transitioned into arts administration, assuming leadership of the ensemble the following year.

During his tenure, Rempe spearheaded various initiatives including the Urban String concert series, the relocation of the ensemble to the Medienbunker in St. Pauli (which later housed the resonanzraum from 2014), and the establishment of the ensemble's residency at the Elbphilharmonie. Additionally, he launched resonanz.digital in 2019 and established the ensemble's own label, resonanzraum records.

Rempe's appointment at the Konzerthaus is contingent upon confirmation by the Berlin Senate.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Rempe stated, "It is a privilege and a joy to assume leadership at the Konzerthaus Berlin. Over recent years, the institution and the Konzerthausorchester have embarked on a pioneering journey, embracing innovation and expanding their offerings. I eagerly anticipate collaborating with Joana Mallwitz and the orchestra, as well as Janina Paul and the entire Konzerthaus team, to uphold the institution's legacy and introduce fresh artistic endeavors."

In response, Joana Mallwitz, Chief Conductor of the Konzerthausorchester, remarked, "I am eager to collaborate with Tobias Rempe, combining our proven methods with innovative approaches to further enrich Berlin's cultural landscape and solidify the significance of classical music in the city. Rempe's progressive vision aligns seamlessly with the direction of our institution and the Konzerthausorchester."
