The San Diego Opera has revealed plans to bring "Fellow Travelers" to Southern California audiences for the first time in the region. This significant production has been scheduled as a highlight of the company's upcoming 2025-26 artistic season, with performances set to take place across three evenings: July 10, 11, and 12, 2026.

David Bennett, who serves as the Joann Clark General Director and CEO of San Diego Opera, shared his enthusiasm for the project in an official company statement. Bennett revealed his decade-long connection to the work, explaining, "I saw Fellow Travelers about ten years ago and I've been looking for an opportunity to bring it to our audience ever since." He emphasized the profound emotional impact of the narrative, describing how "the story it tells of these two men, their relationship, and their choices in the midst of the Lavender Scare and McCarthyism is incredibly moving."

Bennett further praised the artistic merits of the production, highlighting both "the beautiful musical score" and "the top-notch cast." He concluded his remarks by expressing his anticipation: "I can't wait to share Fellow Travelers with San Diego."

The upcoming production will feature distinguished creative leadership, with Kevin Newbury taking on directorial duties and Patrick Summers serving as conductor. The principal cast will showcase Andy Acosta returning to the role of Timothy Laughlin, while baritone Joseph Lattanzi will take on the character of Hawkins Fuller.

Rounding out the ensemble will be an accomplished group of performers including sopranos Vanessa Becerra and Amber R. Monroe, along with Marcus DeLoach, Elisa Sunshine, Randell McGee, Kyle Pfortmiller, and Jeremy Weiss, all contributing to what promises to be a memorable theatrical experience for Southern California opera enthusiasts.
