A new limited series from Sky Originals is set to reimagine Peter Shaffer's acclaimed play, "Amadeus," delving into the life of Mozart from age 25 until his demise, focusing on his intricate relationship with fellow musician Antonio Salieri in Vienna.
Emmy-nominated and BAFTA-winning actor Will Sharpe will portray Mozart, known for his roles in "Giri/Haji" and "The White Lotus," while BAFTA and Emmy-nominated British actor Paul Bettany will take on the role of Salieri, recognized for his recent work in "A Very British Scandal" and "WandaVision."
Originally staged at London's Royal National Theatre in 1979, Shaffer's play garnered acclaim, later adapted into the beloved 1984 Miloš Forman film starring Tom Hulce as Mozart and F. Murray Abraham as Salieri.
Produced by Two Cities Television in partnership with Sky Studios, "Amadeus" will have Paul Gilbert and Megan Spanjian as Executive Producers from Sky Studios, alongside Michael Jackson and Stephen Wright from Two Cities Television. Julian Farino and Alice Seabright are set to direct the series.
Filming is scheduled to commence in Spring 2024, with the series exclusively available on Sky upon release.
Expressing his anticipation, Paul Bettany remarked, "I can't wait to collaborate with Julian Farino, Joe Barton, Sky, and Will Sharpe, who, in my opinion, stands as the most captivating actor of his generation."
