The Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD broadcasts will feature Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” on April 26, 2025, as the season progresses.
Directed by Richard Eyre, this rendition will be led by conductor Joana Mallwitz, with Michael Sumuel taking on the role of Figaro and soprano Olga Kulchynska portraying Susanna. Joining them are Joshua Hopkins as Count Almaviva, Federica Lombardi as the Countess, and Sun-Ly Pierce as Cherubino.
First unveiled in 2014, this production originally reached cinema audiences that same year.
For the Live in HD event, Habib Azar, an American director known for his work in film, theater, and television, will oversee the broadcast. Soprano Julia Bullock will serve as the host, offering viewers a peek behind the curtain with exclusive intermission interviews and content.
When the opera debuted, OperaWire praised the performers, stating, “Overall, the cast’s enthusiasm was contagious. It was nearly impossible to leave the show without a grin, as the sheer joy of the performance overshadowed any minor flaws.”
This upcoming performance promises to uphold the production’s legacy of blending Mozart’s timeless score with a vibrant, engaging presentation. The story, a witty exploration of love, deception, and social hierarchy, continues to resonate with audiences through its sharp humor and unforgettable melodies. With Mallwitz at the helm, known for her dynamic interpretations, the orchestra is expected to bring fresh energy to the familiar compositions. Meanwhile, the chemistry among the cast—highlighted by Sumuel’s robust Figaro and Kulchynska’s spirited Susanna—will likely captivate both longtime opera fans and newcomers tuning in from theaters worldwide. The broadcast will offer a front-row seat to this celebrated work, making it accessible beyond the walls of the Met.
