From the 2026-7 season, renowned baritone Adrian Eröd will assume the position of artistic director for the Wiener Staatsoper’s Opernstudio.

A stalwart of the Wiener Staatsoper since joining in 2003, Eröd first performed with the company in 2001. His extensive repertoire at the opera house includes standout roles in productions such as “Roméo et Juliette,” “The Magic Flute,” “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg,” “La Bohème,” “Le nozze di Figaro,” “Il barbiere di Siviglia,” “Manon,” “Manon Lescaut,” “Simon Boccanegra,” “Gesualdo,” “Die Fledermaus,” “Così fan tutte,” “Werther,” and “Fedora,” among many others.

Eröd’s vocal prowess has also resonated on international stages, with performances at esteemed venues like Oper Frankfurt, Opernhaus Zürich, the Bayreuther Festspiele, and the New National Theatre Tokyo.

The Wiener Staatsoper launched its Opernstudio in the 2020-21 season, coinciding with the tenure of Bogdan Roščić and Philippe Jordan. This initiative offers a two-year program designed to provide exceptional young singers with intensive, practical training. The studio serves as a platform for the opera house to build early, meaningful connections with the next generation of vocal talent while encouraging a deeper exploration of essential questions surrounding artistic quality, operatic tradition, and the comprehensive development of singers.
